The Facility Engineer is a Quebec licensed P. Eng. and is the resident technical expert in Global Operations who supports the Ops team in high level facility design / engineering, commissioning and technical troubleshooting of complex facility engineering problems, and leading vendor management activities related to Facility Operations. Will also support Sales and Solutions Engineering teams on complex one-off (custom) electrical and mechanical systems designs.

The Facility Engineer will provide operational backup and 24x7 support to the Facility Ops team and will, from time to time, provide project and construction management support on Facility Operations related projects.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct and report on root cause analysis of facility incidents.
  • Support ongoing preventive maintenance and repair work on facility mechanical, electrical, and other installed systems.
  • Support the problem management and OFIR (facility incident report) lifecycle.
  • Support Cx related activities.
  • Support vendor management as it relates to Facility Operations.
  • Participate and support the design and construction team with high level engineering related changes to our Basis of Design (BoD) includes support Sales and Solutions Engineering on complex technical requirements.
  • Support effective Opex management initiatives related to Facility Operations.
  • Support and advise training team on technical content as well as provide training and drill support for complex training topics related to Facility Operations.
  • Advise on preventive Maintenance Scope of Work for facility maintenance contracts and respond to operational emergencies as required.
  • Prepare and submit summary reports of conditions in buildings and recommend actions to be taken on a periodic basis.
  • Comply with all safety procedures and requirements and reinforce a culture of safety at all levels of operation.
  • Perform facility inspections and report on conditions affecting operations and review / update existing processes accordingly.
  • Provide effective engineering support for successful critical system troubleshooting, unit commissioning and repairs / replacements.
  • Advise on energy conservation / energy management strategies.
  • Evaluate completed vendor work for acceptable performance.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with and support the MOP content creation team as required.
  • Assist with and support in critical data center events and alarms and be responsible for being a point of escalation on operational issues.
  • Prepare, maintain and regularly review logs for repair, service, operation and complaints related to the equipment.
  • Maintain periodic management reports.
  • Assist in the preparation of operations budget.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for required Facility Ops Training.
  • Design and be accountable for spare part management of mission critical equipment.
  • Advises and keeps the Operations Manager informed of progress of all jobs in order to control cost effectiveness in work assignments and availability of manpower.
  • Provide required information to co-workers pertaining to service contracts, agreements and equipment guarantees.

QUALIFICATIONS

Job Experience:

  • 5-10 years’ experience in data center or mission critical role in the operation, repair and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment, and a variety of building / maintenance trades.
  • 3-5 years in engineering supervision
  • Considerable knowledge of the statutory occupational health and safety requirements.

Language:

  • Good command of French and English is required.

Professional Certification(s):

  • Registered member of Board of Engineering of Quebec

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

IT/PC Skills:

  • Computer programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio and PowerPoint
  • BMS and CMMS software.

Datacenter Environment and Equipment:

  • Operation and maintenance of water pumps and treatment systems, HVAC, UPS, generators, electrical distribution, and control and monitoring systems.

Written/Oral Communication:

  • Bilingual (French and English) is required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and coaching abilities
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Other:

  • Ability to maintain detailed and accurate reports

Flexibility: High level of flexibility and responsiveness is required and work beyond standard hours occurs weekly

Decision Making: Responsible of making decisions with a considerable effect on internal and customer uptime. Decision making may also impact the stability of the data center environment and have a high impact on the operations of the organization

Problem Solving: Problems and situations are different and require interpretation. Use of judgement is required to identify most appropriate solution from several options using prior knowledge and experience

Supervision: This is an IC role but may grow into a position requiring management and supervision of technical staffs
